I was just thinking...

I was looking over the comments on one of my posts about the end of the year and was sad to see one about summers never really being the same.

I know that we've all grown older and our lives are changing. People say that school flies by quickly, and I would have to agree on that. However, people also like to say that these are the best times of your life. I wish not to agree with this. It's not that I'm not having a good time. I love it here and so far it is the best time of my life. But, I look at it as though if this is the best time of my life, then what am I here for? If I'm coming to college simply expecting to grind out a job for the rest of my life, why don't I skip this part (so that I don't know the joy of it) and begin my work-to-live relationship with McDonalds.

I personally want every year to be better than the last and I'm working hard to make sure that this is the case. I know that I'll be working now, but there is no reason not to make it as fun as possible. Even if you do have a summer job at McDonalds, it might suck one day and be lots of fun the next. But remember, you should own what you do. And by own it, I mean you need to take ownership and be proud of it and do your best. I think that this is very important as we go on in life and I hope that other can see this as well.

I don't mean to sound like some inspirational speaker. But, I think that life would be a lot better if we were a lot more optimistic about our futures. We're not losing our freedom, we're gaining our independence.

Enjoy it!

El Fin

The softball season is now over. The girls played some tough competition and ended the year with two losses. Next year brings promise, if the girls can keep their heads up coming into the next season.

The year is drawing to an end and it's important to keep focused to get your work done and stay on track. These grades do matter. Athletes on campus do a pretty good job of representing themselves but we just have to remind ourselves to keep on it.

In other news... Baseball senior day on Saturday. They play on Butterfield road, show up and support your fellow students!

School is almost over

School is almost over which means a break from all of the homework and tests and from all of the constant practices and meetings. The start of summer, which means having to works constantly. It makes me wonder, will the busyness, whether it is with school, sports, or work, ever end?

Variety of Sports at Elmhurst

Fun Fact! Elmhurst College is on Wikipedia!

It's not really much, but it's there. Elmhurst College

So, the reason I found this out was because of a post about the lack of a swim team on campus. Thanks to ECCB-Christina for mentioning it. I heard that Goebel Hall used to be our gym and that it had a swimming pool. I've been in Goebel Hall a few times while I was here, and I'm not sure where that would have been at. I wonder why we opted to skip the swimming pool when we opened up Faganel Hall. Over J-term we had a free pass to the YMCA because Faganel Hall was closed. We received access to the swimming pool. I'm curious as to why we don't get that access anyway. I'm not sure that we ever had a swim team, and I cannot find that information on the internet. But, I don't see why that shouldn't be available. Maybe the college could work something out with the YMCA. I would think that there are plenty of people who don't want to run, but would rather swim instead. It's a good way to build endurance and keep in shape and helps vary the old excercise routine for some people.

This led me to wonder about how many other sports are being avoided on our campus and how many people wish they were here so that they could still play.

Sports that we have:

M&W Tennis
M Wrestling
M&W Track & Field
M&W Cross Country
W Softball
M Baseball
M Football
M&W Basketball
M&W Soccer
W Cheerleading
W Golf
W Bowling
W Volleyball

Out of this list I realize that, we don't have Men's Bowling, only women's. How do we feel about that? I wonder how many guys would like a piece of the bowling pie. I know a lot of my friends back home were in a bowling league, and they were male.

What other sports don't we have here?

Hard Work.

Athletics and schooling are really difficult.

Being an athlete, with all of the mental frustration, is hard. Not to mention the three hour practices and the four to five hour games. Then, you have three hours of class a day, at least. It gets rough. Plus any studying or extra practice you want to put in. College athletics are really not what I thought they would be. I've been going since the week after I got to Elmhurst, and I haven't stopped.

Kudos to all the student-athletes is all I have to say. It takes a special kind of special to keep it together.
